you know what comes from my pocket? money that’s gonna help someone meet their needs - regardless of what that is. it’s time we stop defining what peoples’ needs are for them. and yes, I am saying that for some people drinking or using drugs is a form of GETTING WHAT THEY NEED. And we need to invest in ways to meet people where they are and walk them through to finding other ways to get their needs met.
don’t talk about enabling people when this shitty ass city is not paying enough attention to FORECLOSURES, GENTRIFICATION, LACK OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING, UNEMPLOYMENT, UNDERPAID WORKERS… like DAMN. there are community centers in charlotte that are not getting CITY funding but are supporting unhoused people in a trauma-based, social-trauma based model, not a medical model, not some shitty racist, classist city model - meaning that these folks are GETTING WHAT THEY NEED.
